In many subjects using specialized dictionaries which provide definitions to the terminology of this subject is the natural thing to do. Trying to study it without a tool to learn the meaning of subject specific terms would seem strange if not stupid to most.

Internet marketing doesn’t seem to belong to these subjects although it definitely is highly specialized and so have to be the terms describing the concepts and procedures.

However, many trying to start an online business, either as a part time activity or as a full time job, do not treat this endeavour with appropriate scrupulousness, at least as far as learning the basics is concerned. They do not see that an indispensable prerequisite to learning the basics is learning the basic terminology. They buy an ebook, a video tutorial or an ecourse about some Internet Marketing strategies, start studying and understand only half of it. So they either put it away before they have come to it’s end or they finish it and apply what they thought was instructed.

It’s a generally accepted fact that only a very minor percentage of Internet Marketers becomes wealthy with their online business, some more can live from their online activities while the vast majority fails. That is, they do not make any money at all or not enough to even cover their investments.

There are a lot of reasons under discussion. The most prevalent one is “not taking action” which might be true but doesn’t explain the fact why someone would spend considerable amounts of money for a tutorial supposed to teach him money-making techniques and then wouldn’t apply it. For sure they had the determination to learn it and then put it to action when they spent the money.

Another reason given seems to be a very convenient one for marketers who try to exploit this huge army of internet marketing failures to sell their next product. This reason is: “You have been scammed!”, where “scammed” can readily be replaced by “lied to”, “withheld the real secrets” and so on. In other words, the ebooks, videos or software programs someone purchased to help him make money online were to blame because of their low quality.
This, of course, attracts immediate agreement as it takes the blame off of the failing marketer. And it makes him susceptible to the new offer.
But as only in rare cases the new product effects a turnaround from failure to success this reason is not more true than others.

An explanation which is never heard is, that marketers fail because they do not understand some of the special marketing terms and therefore do not understand enough what they are supposed to do.
That there is no widespread awareness about this concept does not necessarily mean that it wouldn’t be valid.

The following is not presented here as an universal remedy for every internet marketing failure. But it is one which can be very easily tested and this without any further investments for new products.

Just take an internet marketing ebook about a technique you wanted to apply. Pick some special internet marketing term and ask yourself: “What is the definition of (e.g. the definition of long tail keyword)?”

If you can’t come up with an instant, accurate and complete answer then head over to the internet marketing glossary and clear the word to a complete understanding. Do this for a several terms or work through the whole ebook this way.

Then check how you feel about the content now, whether it is more clear for you, whether some confusion has blown off or whether you feel a new drive to apply it.

This is no promise that this will happen. But there is definitely a very good chance that something positive will happen!

Good luck.
